QR Code Verification for Handoffs

Use the handoff steps shown for your transaction. QR scans can record pickup or return, but do not prove that every condition is satisfied or that money has reached an account.

How QR Handoff Works

  1. Booking confirmed: Unique QR codes generated for pickup and return
  2. At pickup: Renter scans owner's QR code to confirm receipt of item
  3. During rental: Both parties have timestamped proof of handoff
  4. At return: Owner scans renter's QR code to confirm item returned
  5. Rental complete: Rental release depends on completion, payment checks and unresolved issues. Direct purchases initiate seller-payout processing on QR-confirmed receipt after buyer inspection, subject to funding, provider and legal checks. Rental-to-purchase conversions have their own settlement process. Initiating payout does not mean money has reached a bank account.

Why QR Verification Matters

  • Proof of delivery: Timestamped record of exactly when handoff occurred
  • Dispute evidence: QR scans are admissible evidence in disputes
  • No-show protection: If renter doesn't show, owner has proof item was available
  • Condition documentation: Take photos at scan time to document item condition
  • Delivery option: QR codes work for any arranged delivery or courier service

Pro tip: Always scan QR codes at the moment of handoff, not before or after. Take photos immediately after scanning to document item condition.

Security Deposit System

Stripe-powered deposit authorization:

  • The refundable deposit is held separately on your card, apart from rental charges.
  • Release follows the 7-day issue-reporting period after the rental is completed, and not before 7 days after its agreed end. Unresolved disputes or payment issues can delay release.
  • For longer rentals, the hold may be renewed or charged and refunded on release.
  • Part or all of the deposit may be kept for a validated damage claim.
  • Your bank may take longer to show a released hold or refund; timing varies.

Bank Account & Payouts

Secure payout management:

  • Link bank account securely via Stripe Connect
  • Complete the payout provider's verification requirements; approval is not guaranteed to be instant.
  • Available payout methods depend on your account, country and provider.
  • Rental release depends on completion, payment checks and unresolved issues. Direct purchases initiate seller-payout processing on QR-confirmed receipt after buyer inspection, subject to funding, provider and legal checks. Rental-to-purchase conversions have their own settlement process. Initiating payout does not mean money has reached a bank account.
  • Check the recorded payout status in your account.

Payout timing: Check Payout Settings and the transaction status for available payout methods and progress. Rental release depends on completion, payment checks and unresolved issues. Provider processing and bank arrival take additional time and vary; PayPal or bank receipt is not guaranteed to be instant.

Payment handling and release

Payments follow the booking or purchase conditions and provider checks:

Direct purchases initiate seller-payout processing on QR-confirmed receipt after buyer inspection, subject to funding, provider and legal checks. Rental-to-purchase conversions have their own settlement process. Initiating payout does not mean money has reached a bank account.

  • Report problems promptly from the relevant booking and keep photos, messages and receipts. Follow the reporting instructions and deadlines in your applicable booking or protection terms. A deposit holding period is not a universal dispute-filing deadline. This guidance does not change contractual or statutory rights.

  • Payments are processed through payment providers. Follow their secure checkout instructions; do not send card details or security codes to support.

Payment providers: Use the payment methods offered at checkout. Card payments through Stripe and PayPal may be available, depending on the transaction, country and provider eligibility. Website access does not guarantee payment or payout availability.

Fraud Prevention

Multi-layer fraud detection system:

  • VPN/proxy/Tor detection (IPQualityScore)
  • Device fingerprinting and behavioral analysis
  • Risk scoring algorithm for all transactions
  • Manual review for high-risk accounts
  • Real-time monitoring of suspicious activity

Fraudulent accounts are immediately suspended and law enforcement is contacted when necessary.

Life4Rent Protection Program

Life4Rent Protect is a discretionary protection program, not an insurance policy. Payment handling, handoff records and dispute support do not guarantee safety or reimbursement. Any reimbursement is considered after successful resolution of the relevant dispute and requires separate discretionary approval under the applicable plan, including its limits, exclusions, evidence requirements and quoted fee. A favourable dispute outcome is not itself a promise of payment.

Platform safety tools

  • Contact support through the Help Center.
  • Payments follow the booking or purchase conditions and provider checks:
  • Dispute mediation services
  • Security deposit management
  • QR-verified handoff documentation

Life4Rent Protect — not an insurance policy

Life4Rent Protect is a discretionary protection program, not an insurance policy. Reimbursement is not guaranteed.

  • Life4Rent Protect is not an insurance policy. Under the approved policy, reimbursement cannot exceed the item's value or the applicable limit, whichever is lower: USD 2500 for standard protection and USD 3000 for premium protection. USD is the base currency; amounts in other currencies are converted against these USD limits. Available Protection Pool funds, applicable exclusions and separate discretionary approval apply. Reimbursement is considered only after successful resolution of the relevant dispute. Neither the fee nor a favourable dispute outcome guarantees payment.
  • Life4Rent Protect is not an insurance policy. Report theft promptly and retain any police report required by the applicable rental plan. Do not wait for dispute resolution before reporting. A police report or favourable dispute outcome does not guarantee compensation; protection reimbursement requires separate discretionary approval under the applicable terms.

  • Life4Rent Protect is not an insurance policy. Report incidents promptly and follow the applicable plan's reporting instructions. A rental protection reporting period is not a purchase cooling-off period, a universal dispute deadline or a payout waiting period. Reimbursement is considered after successful resolution of the relevant dispute and separate discretionary approval. Review time depends on the evidence and circumstances; approval does not prove that money has been sent.

Life4Rent Protect is not an insurance policy; reimbursement is discretionary. The current optional rental-protection calculation charges 3% of the rental amount used for the booking. Under the approved USD-base policy, premium-category fees use the item's declared USD value: below 2500, USD 25; from 2500 to below 10000, USD 60; from 10000 to below 25000, USD 120; and from 25000, 1% of declared value capped at USD 400. Check the actual booking quote for the applicable plan, converted currency and charged amount. These are fee calculations, not reimbursement limits; USD 400 is a fee cap, not a promised reimbursement.

Dispute Resolution Process

When disagreements arise, our fair and transparent dispute process ensures both parties are heard:

Step 1: File a Dispute

Report problems promptly from the relevant booking and keep photos, messages and receipts. Follow the reporting instructions and deadlines in your applicable booking or protection terms. A deposit holding period is not a universal dispute-filing deadline. This guidance does not change contractual or statutory rights.

Step 2: Response Period

Provide your account of the issue and supporting evidence when requested. Follow any response deadline stated for your case. Fund handling depends on the transaction status and applicable terms.

Step 3: Mediation

Our trained mediation team reviews all evidence from both parties. We examine photos, messages, listing descriptions, QR scan timestamps, rental agreements, and user history. The goal is a fair resolution based on facts.

Step 4: Decision

Support reviews the available evidence and communicates the outcome. Timing depends on the case; this guidance does not promise a fixed decision date or remove contractual or statutory rights.

Possible Outcomes

  • Full refund to renter: Item was misrepresented, unavailable, or unsafe
  • Full payment to owner: Item returned in good condition, no valid complaint
  • Partial refund: Both parties share responsibility for issues
  • Security deposit retained: Damage occurred, owner provided repair quotes
  • Additional compensation: For significant inconvenience or policy violations

Pro tip: Use QR code scans and take detailed photos at handoff. Keep all communication on-platform. Document everything. This evidence is crucial for fair dispute resolution.
